Our little market town
Chesham is a lovely town in the Chiltern Hills of Buckinghamshire in southern England. It is the fourth largest town in the county with a population of 23,000 people. It is situated in the picturesque Chess Valley and surrounded by farmland.
It is said that Lewis Carrol based his "Mad Hatter" character in "Alice in Wonderland" on Roger Crab who lived in a house in Francis Yard, Chesham. Stephen Fry spent part of his childhood here, living in Stanley Avenue. The novelist and poet D.H. Lawrence rented a cottage in nearby Cholesbury while he was working on "The Rainbow".
